A man was found dead inside an unoccupied police car parked in front of the Azusa Police Department headquarters in Los Angeles County early Thursday, officials confirmed.

According to the Azusa Police Department, the man was discovered unresponsive at around 4:50 a.m. inside a vehicle that was slated for mandatory maintenance and not in active use by police personnel.

Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene to attempt to help the man, but he was pronounced dead just before 5 a.m.

The circumstances surrounding the man’s death are under investigation. The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner and the Azusa Police Department Detective Bureau are handling the case.

The man’s name was not immediately released.

The police department said additional details may be released as they become available.
