Make Fish Market has announced its reopening after a five-year “hiatus,” with a soft opening today at their midtown location at 1801 L St. from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., according to a post on the business’s social media.

The restaurant, which is part of the Saigon Alley group, is the rebranded version of Make Fish Poke and Sushi Burrito, which occupied the same location from 2013 until its closure in 2020.

According to a social media post, Make Fish is “returning refreshed and reimagined, ready to welcome you all with the same love and aloha that started it all.” It goes on to say that it is returning “with everything you loved plus a few surprises we picked up along the way.”

Owner Mymy Nguyen opened the inaugural location of sister restaurant Saigon Alley Kitchen & Bar in an adjacent location in the same building around the same time Make Fish closed in 2020.

Saigon Alley now also has a location in Natomas. At one point, it also briefly opened a location in Folsom last year, but it has since closed. Nguyen also owns restaurants Sit Lo Saigon, with locations in Davis and Elk Grove, and Valley Hi/North Laguna’s Saigon 88.

Nguyen briefly opened a high-end sushi concept in the Make Fish spot called Okesutura, which initially offered a $195 omakase, a Japanese term for a fixed-price, chef-designed meal. It closed less than a year later in 2024.
