Scouting Creighton (11-11)
Coming home has treated Creighton well as the Bluejays earned a pair of midweek victories to even their record at 11-11. Trailing 6-3 with two down in the eighth inning against Omaha on Tuesday, Creighton blasted five consecutive singles to draw even at 6-6. One inning later the Bluejays walked off the Mavericks.

The offensive leaders for Creighton remains Ben North (.393) and Nate McHugh (.341). As a team the Bluejays are hitting .271.

Creighton’s pitching continues to be a work in progress, but head coach Mark Kingston believes his team is close to getting things figured out.

Matt Goldenbaum has started to claim the closer role, earning two saves and lowering his ERA to 0.82. As a team the Bluejays have a 6.68 team ERA.

Scouting Sacramento State (10-16)

The Hornets come to Omaha after splitting a pair of midweek games with Kansas on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sacramento State is 2-3 in its last five games and 5-7 in road games.

The Sacramento State offense comes to Charles Schwab Field Omaha hitting .256 as a team. The top two hitters are

Erick Dessens (.319) and Jace Jeremiah (.316).

Similar to the Bluejays the Hornets have some moving parts on the mound. Sac State has a 5.04 team ERA, but the lone rotation arm set is ace Carson Timothy (2.96 ERA).

Head Coach Mark Kingston Claims 500th in Walkoff Fashion

Bluejay head coach Mark Kingston earned his 500th win and his first walk off at the helm for the Bluejays on Tuesday, March 25 with Creighton’s 7-6 win over Omaha.

The veteran coach enters the series with Sacramento State with a career mark of 501-346-1 record.

In the midst of a six-game home stretch, the longest homestand of the season, Creighton has certainly logged a heavy travel schedule in the early portion of the season.  Creighton began the 2026 campaign with consecutive trips to California. The third weekend sent the Bluejays to Texas. Throw in a trip to Baton Rouge and New Orleans that necessitated Creighton taking a 16-hour  bus trip home as well as a road series at Miami.

The total miles traveled is over 13,000 (13,206) in the opening five weeks.

Home Cooking

With victories over Omaha and South Dakota State, Creighton is 4-1 in home contests this season.

Bluejays and Hornets Both Went to Baton Rouge

Creighton and Sacramento State both made trips to Baton Rouge this season as the Hornets took two of three meetings from LSU. Creighton, meanwhile, dropped a midweek battle with the Tigers.

The two squads also share Kansas and Tarleton State. Creighton went 1-1 in two games with Tarleton State, while Sac State went 1-1 against Kansas. The Bluejays face Kansas later this season, while Sacramento State closes the reqular season against Tarleton State.
