Sacramento County deputies are in a standoff with a man in Antelope after alleged threats against his family.

ANTELOPE, Calif. —

Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies are in a standoff with a man in Antelope after he allegedly made death threats against his family, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. to the 5100 block of Antler Run Place, where a man barricaded himself inside the home, officials said. The man allegedly threatened to kill his wife, family, and their dog, who were able to get out of the house.

Officials said he had earlier struck a car with a metal pole and made threats before locking himself inside.

Deputies believe the man has access to a firearm and is refusing to come out, officials said.

“Our threat level is pretty high on this and out of abundance or precaution we’re not dealing with an isolated place in the middle of nowhere,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Sgt. Amar Gandhi said. “It’s a very high populated area. Lots of families. It’s really a great neighborhood where we don’t really frequent, so something we’re going to exercise a lot of caution with.”
