A San Francisco State University graduate was charged Friday with involuntary manslaughter in connection with a shooting that killed a 22-year-old San Francisco resident who was also a recent graduate of the university.

San Francisco District Attorney’s officials said 25-year-old Nation Wood was expected to be arraigned Friday afternoon at the Hall of Justice. Wood has been in custody since police arrested him on Tuesday evening in connection with the fatal incident.

Police said officers responded to a residence on the 2200 block of 22nd Avenue Tuesday night after receiving reports of a shooting just before 10:43 p.m. Officers arrived to find a woman, Samantha Emge, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died at the hospital.

According to Emge’s LinkedIn profile, she studied interior design and architecture at the university before graduating. She held a position as a design assistant at Chantel Lamberto, an interior design firm located in Presidio Heights.

Representatives from the firm did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Family members of Emge did not immediately return requests for comment.

According to LinkedIn, Wood attended San Francisco State University for less than two years and worked part-time on event and travel planning for the White House between November 2023 and July 2025.

A White House spokesperson confirmed Thursday that Wood was employed during the Biden administration.

Most recently, he worked as an “independent pre-event site security advisor” — supporting event security operations — he wrote on his LinkedIn.

Before his time at San Francisco State, Wood played baseball for Saddleback College, a community college in Southern California. He also played baseball and football at Lake Washington High School in Washington state, according to the school’s athletics page.

Officials said the case remains open and active.
