A woman was stabbed aboard a San Francisco Muni bus Friday afternoon after an argument between passengers, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 1:29 p.m. on the 49 line near Mission Street between Otis and McCoppin streets, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency. Officers from the police department’s Mission Station arrived to find the victim wounded and called for medical assistance. She was taken to a hospital.

The extent of her injuries was not immediately clear, though SFMTA said they were believed to be non-life-threatening.

No arrests had been made as of Friday afternoon, and police said the investigation remains active. Authorities have not released information about a possible suspect.

“The safety of Muni riders remains our top priority,” SFMTA said in a statement, citing increased staff presence and onboard camera systems. “When incidents do occur, we work closely with law enforcement to support investigations and help ensure those responsible are held accountable.”

SFMTA said it is cooperating with the police department, which is leading the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the department’s tip line at 415-575-4444. Tipsters may remain anonymous.
