(KRON) — An arson investigation is underway in Oakland’s Fruitvale neighborhood after a fire broke out early Friday morning at an insurance agency, according to officials.
Oakland Fire Department crews responded at 2:45 a.m. to a fire at HRC Insurance Services at 1001 Fruitvale Avenue B. Firefighters attacked the blaze and said they prevented it from gutting Guadalajara Restaurant, a beloved restaurant that occupies the same building.
Photos shared by OFD show heavy fire damage to part of the building’s interior.

“The fire investigation which began almost immediately revealed an incendiary cause, and an arson investigation is now open and underway,” OFD wrote.
Four fire engines, two ladder trucks and two battalion chiefs responded to the incident.
