The Fox Theater Foundation is looking for a new Executive Director to lead Bakersfield’s historic Fox Theater and Nile Theater.

The nonprofit is offering pay in the six-figure range and is taking applications for the next two months.

What they’re saying: “The Fox Theater and Nile Theater are more than historic buildings, they are living centers of arts, music, and community connection,” said Foundation President Gilbert LaRoque. “We are looking for a passionate, collaborative leader who will preserve these architectural gems while activating them for audiences of all ages and backgrounds.”

The big picture: The Executive Director will develop long-term strategic plans with the board, oversee daily operations and staff, manage budgets and revenue streams, lead programming and audience development, drive fundraising and donor relations and oversee historic preservation and restoration efforts.

Candidates can expect to receive a salary in the $100,000 to $160,000 range annually, along with competitive benefits, discretionary bonus and a flexible schedule.

What we’re watching: The application deadline is May 27. Interested candidates can send their resumes to [email protected].

Driving the news: The two historic theaters are some of the oldest venues still in operation in the Central Valley.

The Fox Theater was built in 1930 and has been fully restored. It offers a 1,500-seat performing arts space that features elegant architecture and exceptional acoustics. The theater also operates Eva’s, which is an intimate lounge space with a stage, bar and modular seating.

The Nile Theater opened in 1906 as the Bakersfield Opera House and was rebuilt in 1938. It was acquired by the foundation in 2023 and is currently being restored as a 700-person capacity live music and performance venue.
