Mar 24, 2026 — Fresno City College presents the 34th annual City Jazz Festival
March 26-27, featuring grammy winning saxophonist Troy Roberts 

City Jazz Artist Troy RobertsFresno City College is proud to announce the 34th Annual City Jazz Festival, scheduled for March 26–27, 2026. This year’s event continues a three-decade tradition of excellence in jazz education, culminating in a featured performance by three-time GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist Troy Roberts.

Embracing his love for a vast variety of stylistic genres, Roberts is quickly becoming one of the most widely recorded touring artists of his time. Roberts, a New York City based Australian immigrant, is also a prolific leader with sixteen releases to his name. Currently celebrating his latest, Green Lights (Toy Robot Music) featuring John Patitucci, Paul Bollenback and Jimmy Macbride, he maintains a busy recording and performance schedule with his quartet, his original project Nu-Jive. 

His concert is scheduled for Thursday March 26, 2026, at noon with the Fresno City College Student Jazz Ensemble directed by FCC music instructor Paul Lucckesi in the FCC Theatre. Admission is free.  

The City Jazz Festival has become a premier destination for student musicians across California. Over its 33-year history, the festival has hosted more than 12,000 student ensembles and awarded over $100,000 in scholarships to prestigious institutions like the Berklee College of Music and the Stanford Jazz Workshop.

This year, 40 student jazz groups from throughout the Central Valley will perform and participate in intensive workshops led by some of the finest jazz educators in the nation. Listed below is the two-day schedule.

 

Day 1: Thursday, March 26

Student Performances & Workshops: 8:00 AM – 6:10 PM
Master Class with Troy Roberts: 9:30 – 10:30 AM in the Recital Hall (MS 132)
Featured Concert: 12:00 PM – Troy Roberts (tenor saxophone)

Day 2: Friday, March 27

Student Performances & Workshops: 8:40 AM – 5:00 PM
