Frances Suszko
OBITUARY
Frances (Fran) Suszko passed away peacefully in Poway on March 18, 2026, due to complications from dementia. Frances Rosanna Suszko was born in South Dakota on August 6, 1936 to the late Frederick and Margaret Frazier (Eberle). She met her future husband, Gus, while staying with her sister, Alice, to help with her children, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They married in Stockton, CA on April 12, 1958, and settled in Northern California where they had two children. A few years after marrying they relocated to Southern California where they had three additional children. Fran spent much of her life as a stay-at-home mom caring for their five children. She also was a volunteer in her church, helping to organize events such as the annual bazar. As her children got older, she went back to school and received her AA degree in Early Childhood Education and Special Education. She spent several years volunteering in her children’s schools and later as a teacher’s aide at Pomerado Elementary School.
Fran’s husband and children were her world, but in her free time she loved gardening and working in the yard of her beloved Poway home. She also enjoyed playing the piano and singing for her family. She cooked every holiday dinner, and loved baking and making fresh squeezed lemonade and Kool-Aid popsicles for her kids and the neighbors. When their kids were grown Fran and Gus began travelling, visiting family throughout the country, going to Hawaii and sailing on several cruises, including to the Caribbean, Europe, Alaska and Australia. In her later years her favorite pastimes were putting together puzzles, playing with her dog, Kaylee, and especially spending time with her husband, Gus.
Fran survived by her husband of 68 years, August (Gus); her children Chuck (Pam), Kristina (Al), Katrina (Steve) and Kathy; her grandchildren Kyle, Jeanie, Lailah and Marco. She was preceded in death by her son August, and her siblings Edith, Alice, Dorothy, Kenneth and Mary Kay.
The family is grateful to the wonderful caregivers who spent so much time with her during the last years. We cannot express how much your kindness towards Mom has meant.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Alzheimer’s San Diego or your favorite charity supporting children.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2nd 11am at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary 13243 Poway Rd. Poway, CA 92064. A committal will follow at Miramar National Cemetery.
