A crowd of protesters gathered March 28 at the corner of Pearl Street and Girard Avenue in La Jolla to participate in the third round of “No Kings” demonstrations held nationwide to oppose actions of the Trump administration.

The No Kings protests began in June last year as a day of mobilization against what demonstrators describe as authoritarian actions by President Donald Trump.

A second day of protests was held in October, and a fourth is planned for May.

The protests have drawn millions of people around the country, and La Jolla has been a site for all of them, as well as other demonstrations opposing the administration.

On March 28, more than 3,200 events were planned nationwide, with additional demonstrations in countries including Italy, France and Germany.

In San Diego County, at least 20 protests were scheduled from Oceanside to Otay Mesa, with a main rally in downtown San Diego.

Organizers frame the protests as a peaceful, grassroots response to a range of concerns, including aggressive immigration enforcement, what they consider misplaced federal spending priorities and threats to voting rights, as well as rising costs of living and most recently the war with Iran.
