Reno, Nev. – McArthur Tennis Center
RENO, Nev. –Â Nevada and San Diego State went down to the wire in Sunday’s Mountain West dual, but it was the Aztecs who took the clinching point in a 4-3 win at McArthur Tennis Center.
Nevada (9-6, 0-3 MW) fought back from losing the doubles point to take three singles matches and square things at 3-3, with the dual to be decided at No. 1 between Axel Huysmans and Aleksi Lofman.
In the end, Huysmans fought valiantly but Lofman took the final three games of the second set and outlasted his Wolf Pack counterpart in a 7-6 (3), 7-5 victory for the clinch.
Doubles also came down to the wire at No. 2. With the teams split at a match apiece, all eyes were on Court 2 as Nevada’s Rémy Trégourès and Greg Valente slugged it out with San Diego State’s (9-9, 3-0 MW) Eugenio Gonzalez Fitzmaurice and Imran Daniel Hazli. The match would go to a tiebreaker where the Aztec tandem captured the point with a 7-4 decision for the 7-6 win.
Trégourès bounced back in singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory over Hazli to even it up at 1-1. Nevada’s additional victories came from Rayen Hermassi at No. 4, 6-2, 7-6 (6) over Finn Willman, and Max Contet at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4 over Brock Anderson.
