A driver was killed Saturday evening in a solo crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported about 5:10 p.m. Saturday on Kearney Avenue west of Dickenson Avenue in Fresno County, the CHP said.
CHP officers and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and found EMS crews performing life-saving measures on the driver. Despite those efforts, the driver died at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found the driver was traveling westbound in a Chevrolet Malibu at a high rate of speed when the vehicle veered south and left the roadway. The front right side of the Malibu struck a palm tree on the south shoulder.
Investigators said the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, suffering fatal injuries.
Alcohol is suspected to have been a factor in the crash. No other vehicles or people were involved, authorities said.
