A deadline is approaching for eligible Sutter Health patients in California to claim part of a $21.5 million class action settlement tied to alleged data privacy violations.Â
Patients who logged into their Sutter online patient portal between 2015 and 2020 have until May 5 to file a claim for their part of the settlement of a 2019 lawsuit filed in Sacramento Superior Court on behalf of 1.6 million consumers.Â
The suit, Jane Doe I and Jane Doe II et al v. Sutter Health, alleged that Sutter disclosed patients’ personally identifiable information and protected health information to third parties without consent by using third-party tracking technologies on some webpages, including the MyHealthOnline portal.Â
Sutter denied any wrongdoing. Â
The two sides reached a settlement in 2025, and the court approved it earlier this year.Â
Consumers are eligible for a cash payment of up to $90 from the settlement fund if they were California residents who logged into the Sutter online portal between June 10, 2015, and March 20, 2020.
Claims can be submitted online or mailed and postmarked by May 5. The claim form can be mailed to Sutter Health Analytics Litigation Settlement Administrator, P.O. Box 4276, Portland, OR 97208-4276.
