MILPITAS — A teen boy was arrested after fatally stabbing another boy and also injuring a girl near the Milpitas High School campus Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

The deadly attack was reported around 3:50 p.m. in the 200 block of Vienna Drive, Milpitas police wrote in a Wednesday news release. That is about 100 yards away from the school’s athletic fields, and about 25 minutes after school let out for the day.

Responding police officers found a 17-year-old Milpitas boy suffering from stab wounds; the boy was taken to a hospital, where he died. A 16-year-old San Jose girl who was injured was also taken to a hospital, where she was treated and released, police said.

The boy alleged to have committed the stabbing, a Milpitas resident, was arrested at the scene and booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder and assault with a deadly weapon, police said. The names of the teens involved were not released because they are minors.

“Based on the information available at this time, the incident appears to be isolated and poses no ongoing threat to the public,” police said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones affected during this difficult time.”

Police confirmed that all three minors are students in the Milpitas Unified School District, but stopped short of stating they all attended Milpitas High; the district also operates Calaveras Hills High School.

Messages to Milpitas High and the school district were not immediately returned Wednesday. Police did not release additional details, citing an ongoing investigation.
