A late-season storm cycle came through the Sierra Nevada Tuesday, making a welcome return of winter at Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

Kirkwood reported 10 inches of new snow so far, with an additional 15-18 inches expected over the next two days.

“The fresh snowfall has already transformed the mountain, restoring winter-like conditions across the resort,” Carly Mangan, senior communications specialist at Kirkwood, said in an email.

In addition, Heavenly Mountain Resort received 2 inches of snow, and snowfall is expected at Northstar California Resort as temperatures continue to drop, she added.

The snowfall gave the snowpack a boost and improved snow coverage at the resort even as Lake Tahoe resorts approach scheduled closing dates. The final days are April 19 for Kirkwood and Heavenly, and April 5 for Northstar.
