A person driving a stolen vehicle in San Francisco was arrested following a police pursuit that ended on the Bay Bridge during rush hour, authorities said.

Officers tried to stop the stolen vehicle at Mission and 8th streets in the South of Market neighborhood around 6:42 p.m., but the driver fled, according to San Francisco police. A police chase ensued that also involved the California Highway Patrol.

The person drove onto the Bay Bridge, stopped the car, fled by foot and climbed onto the bridge’s structure, police said. 

Authorities eventually arrested the person, who was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation, officials said.

No further details about the incident or the individual were immediately released.
