BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — A 33-year-old man accused of killing 30-year-old Yolanda Rojo on College Avenue on March 25 pleaded not guilty to murder, child cruelty, and domestic-violence-related charges on Wednesday.

Victor Farias entered the plea on April 1, 2026. He was denied bail. A criminal protective order was filed for him to stay away from two minors.
Bakersfield police were called around 9:47 p.m. on March 25 to a report of an assault in the 7000 block of College Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as Yolanda Rojo, of Bakersfield, with severe injuries. She was taken to Kern Medical, where she later died.

Farias is accused of assaulting and killing Rojo on College Avenue in the late hours of March 25. Investigators determined the case was a domestic violence-related assault, police said.

Authorities said Farias was captured by Tehachapi police the following day and taken into custody by Bakersfield police. His vehicle was found abandoned near Tehachapi in the area of Highway 58 and Tucker Road just after 11:30 p.m., on March 25, after an apparent hit-and-run crash.
