FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Easter Sunday is quickly approaching, and the City of Fresno is gearing up for thousands to enjoy the parks with their friends and loved ones as they celebrate the holiday.

On Thursday afternoon, several families were enjoying the sunny, windy conditions at Woodward Park.

Some kids are taking advantage of the breezy conditions to fly a kite.

This weekend, the number of families parking and setting up will increase.

“This is our Superbowl weekend on the parks side,” said Fresno PARCS Director Aaron Aguirre, “Anybody who wants to come out and enjoy, they are welcome to do so, set up their stuff with families.”

PARCS Director Aaron Aguirre says that every year, Fresno’s regional and neighborhood parks are flooded with families ready to make lifelong memories as they celebrate Easter Sunday.

To maintain trash bins and bathrooms, the city will ramp up staffing.

“With our current staff and augmented staff, we will have somewhere upwards of 88 additional staff members not just in our regionals but throughout all of our parks,” said Aguirre.

Aguirre reminds everyone to be respectful of their areas at the park and says there are certain dos and don’ts for everyone.

“Like confetti eggs and silly string. Those are the gifts that keep on giving. It takes weeks and months for that stuff to really be eliminated from the parks and turfs and so forth,” said Aguirre.

It’s also important to note that pavilions must be reserved and paid for, but the green grass is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

“We will have people positioned at the pavilions, and in addition to that, we will have a sign showing the paid reservation. To give you an idea, on Saturday we have about 30 pavilions reserved and that number doubles on Sunday,” said Aguirre.

Extra Traffic is also expected with signs already warning drivers near Woodward Park.

The Regional Sports Complex of Jensen and West will be closed.

Woodard and Roeding are open at 6 a.m. and all neighboring parks at 7 a.m.

If you would like to reserve a pavilion at one of the parks, you can still make a reservation tomorrow by calling the parks and recreation department.
