The U.S. men’s national team is looking for a win to round out October.
Friday’s outing against Ecuador resulted in a 1-1 draw, as veteran striker Enner Valencia outmaneuvered Chris Richards to open the scoring in the first half before Folarin Balogun rescued a draw with his second-half finish.
Ecuador did not have stars Moises Caicedo and Piero Hincapie, though the U.S. also is dealing with injury issues as Christian Pulisic, among others, was not deemed fit enough to start.
There is hope that Pulisic and Co. can get in some minutes, though starting left-back Antonee Robinson will not play again, despite being called up, due to an ongoing knee issue.
Next up for the U.S. is Australia, which is ranked No. 25 in the world by FIFA, one spot behind Ecuador. The U.S. is at No. 16, so the Socceroos will provide another test as they have qualified for the 2026 World Cup.
Unlike Ecuador, Australia doesn’t have many notable names at top clubs, but there are some promising young players hoping to take that next step.
Following the October break, the U.S. will face off against fellow World Cup-qualified teams in Paraguay and Uruguay in November, the last set of senior international games on the calendar until March.
