After a brief warmup accompanied by Santa Ana winds on Easter Sunday, SoCal will return to normal temperatures this week.

While “significant” warming is expected through Sunday, a cooling trend will begin on Monday and last through at least Wednesday, the National Weather Service says.

Gusty Santa Anas will continue over L.A. and Ventura counties on Sunday but weaken into the afternoon and overnight, NWS said. A Wind Advisory for both counties will expire at 3 p.m. Saturday, and one for inland and mountain communities expired at 1 p.m.

As KTLA meteorologist Kacey Montoya pointed out, the weakening winds are good news for firefighters battling the Springs Fire in the Moreno Valley area, which burned over 4,000 acres after Santa Ana winds caused it to grow rapidly on Friday. A brief lull in Santa Anas overnight allowed firefighters to increase containment of the blaze to 45% as of Saturday morning.

After the cooldown at the start of the week, forecasters are predicting a chance of rain beginning Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
