OAKLAND — A Saturday fire displaced over a dozen people.
Crews responded to a residence on South Alpine Road just after 11 a.m.
Authorities say the structure was a large apartment building and a fire broke out near a dryer in one apartment.
Due to the building’s age and the extent of the damage they believe it will be a total loss. 13 individuals were living there.
One person was transported to a local hospital with injuries from smoke inhalation.
When we spoke with Oakland Fire Captain Anthony Thibodeau, he couldn’t at the time verify the wellbeing of all the pets involved.
Due to the intensity of the fire, a third alarm was called, garnering a sizable mutual aid response.
“We used a lot of the career departments surrounding us, we used Waterville, Smithfield, Sidney, Belgrade, Rome, Winslow, Fairfield and Augusta,” Thibodeau shared.
The Red Cross is helping those who were displaced. The Maine Fire Marshals Office is investigating the fire.
