Okay, we can admit that California has cowboys too. After all, who do you think starred in all those Westerns way back when? Anyway, a new property that’s hit the market shows that even the tech hub of Northern California still has its own slices of the Wild West. Still, we can’t help but wonder what you could get in the Lone Star State at the same price tag.
Black Ranch in Burney, California — not far from the Nevada and Oregon borders — is now listing its 1,000-acre property for $4.85 million, according to real estate brokers Hall and Hall. With a unique combination of farm and ranch land bumping shoulders with high-reaching forests, Black Ranch stands out as a special place to get away from the big cities while also enjoying modern comforts.
“Black Ranch is a magnificent 1,000± acre family recreational ranch located northeast of Redding, California, in Shasta County,” Hall and Hall writes. “It features an extensive ranch compound with beautiful homes, a tennis court, a swimming pool, a horse stable, and expansive views of Burney Peak. Black Ranch is a remarkable wildlife habitat bordered by National Forest lands on three sides, providing excellent conservation and recreation opportunities.”
Sitting 4 1/2 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area, Hall and Hall writes that Black Ranch could be a working ranch, corporate retreat, weekend getaway, permanent home, recreational property, or a combination of them all.
If someone envies the farming life, there are ample pastures for cattle to go along with 50 acres of timberland, which can be sold for income. Hunters will be pleased by the presence of Columbia black-tailed deer and Rocky Mountain elk. Meanwhile, nature enthusiasts can take in the views from the nearly 4,000-foot elevation at any of the ranch’s compounds.
Yet while Black Ranch is undeniably beautiful, we have to wonder what you could get back in Texas for a similar, or cheaper, price tag.
For example, Blue Mountain Ranch in Jeff Davis County is selling its 1,000-acre property, courtesy of Icon Global, but it’s listed at $7.75 million, nearly double the cost of Black Ranch.
Elsewhere, Diamond H Ranch in Childress, up in the Texas Panhandle, is offering 1,449 acres for $4.72 million, offering more acres at a lower price. Then in Aspermont, near Abilene, Valhalla Ranch is selling 1,301 acres for $4.675 million. Both are also listed from Hall and Hall.
Meanwhile, the O Kincaid Ranch on the southwestern portion of the Edwards Plateau is selling more than 4,600 acres for $2.75 million. So, for half the price of Black Ranch, you could own a property more than four times the size.
The only thing to ask now is: How picturesque do you want your ranch to be?
