A malfunctioning elevator in a century-old San Francisco apartment dropped three stories Monday morning while an adult was trapped inside, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.
The free-fall injured the person riding in the elevator, who was taken to the hospital with “moderate to severe injuries,” the department said.
The incident happened at 8:44 a.m. at 1475 Vallejo St., a four-story multi-unit apartment near Russian Hill, which property records show was built in 1917.
Fire officials said the property owner and San Francisco Department of Building Inspections have been notified of the incident.
