Authorities have arrested a woman who is accused of physically assaulting a puppy, causing it to yelp in pain in Santa Monica, police told NBC Los Angeles Tuesday.
When Santa Monica police got a call about a woman hurting a dog Sunday, officers were sent to Main Street near Pico Boulevard to find the woman and the 3-month-old puppy.
Santa Monica Animal Control was called to the scene to take the dog to a veterinarian for evaluation. The pup was later found to have a broken leg.
The woman accused of hurting the puppy, 40-year-old Connie Arreola, was taken into custody for suspicion of felony animal cruelty.
Police said Arreola and the pup were both homeless.
As the investigation continued, anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have information was asked to contact the Santa Monica Police Department.
