If you’re a Long Beach resident, don’t pass go on this new game board because Mr. Monopoly has come to the city and he’s making a stop at local landmarks.

The famous board game has just released the “Monopoly: Long Beach Edition,” board featuring squares based on locations that define the city and its culture.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to bring all of our businesses, not just the Queen Mary on one board if you will,” said Steve Caloca, managing director for the Queen Mary, which is prominently featured on the cover of the gameboard box and the coveted “Boardwalk” space on the game board. The ship held an event for the launch of the new game last week.

“When it came out it was just great to see so many great places we have in the community,” Caloca said.

There are various Monopoly city editions featuring local landmarks, streets and businesses, including cities like Boston, St. Louis, and San Diego. But this is the first Long Beach edition and it’s just one of a handful of city versions done each year.

“It’s supposed to represent everything we love about the city. We ask for input from the community on what they want to see represent their city,” said Jennifer Tripsea, who designs custom games for Monopoly and other Hasbro products.

“We do these city editions because it’s a great way to commemorate your city on an iconic board game. Long Beach is absolutely beautiful, it’s stunning, it has a lot of culture and most importantly there’s a lot of community pride,” she added.

Beyond the Queen Mary, the board includes 22 property squares representing things like the Long Beach Aquarium, VIP Records, Naples Canal, downtown, El Dorado Regional Park,  Long Beach Museum of Art, the Rainbow Lagoon and more.

“It’s really a tour around the city,” Caloca said.

The board game is available at the Queen Mary gift shop or at queenmary.com.
