Less than 24 hours after they were in the center of a benches-clearing brawl at Angel Stadium, Atlanta Braves starter Reynaldo López and Los Angeles Angels designated hitter Jorge Soler are facing seven-game suspensions and undisclosed fines for their actions in the fight. Both are appealing the rulings.

The disciplinary action is a result of a brawl that began in the fifth inning of the Braves’ 7-2 win over the Angels on Tuesday night. After López threw a pitch that sailed near the head of Soler, the Angels’ DH stared down the Braves’ right-hander and then charged the mound. The two exchanged haymakers, with López swinging with his right hand that still held the baseball.

Benches cleared, as López was eventually restrained by Angels’ star Mike Trout, while Soler was tackled by Braves’ manager Walt Weiss, who has a black belt in taekwondo. Only López and Soler were disciplined as a result of the brawl. Both will be eligible to play while their appeals are pending. Soler got the start on Wednesday in right field for the Angels and homered in his first at-bat of the game.
