BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Bakersfield Police Department said officers will be checking drivers for signs of impairment at an undisclosed checkpoint location Friday night.
The department said the checkpoint will take place April 10, somewhere within city limits, between 6:30 p.m. and 2 a.m. Saturday.
Officials said DUI checkpoints are effective at lowering the amount of DUI-related crashes. Routine and well-publicized DUI checkpoints can reduce DUI-related injury crashes by 20%, the department said in a release.
Officers will be checking for signs of impairment related to alcohol, drug or prescription drug use.
DUI convictions can result in significant jail time, fines and other expenses that could top $10,000.
Anyone who suspects seeing an impaired driver on the road is asked to call 911.
