The iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles has a secret…
Hidden around back off of 2nd street is REDCAT, a theater and gallery space that many museum district explorers might miss – but is certainly worth your time.
Founded by the California Institute of the Arts, the multidisciplinary arts center is where Los Angeles-based artist Harmony Holiday just launched her first solo exhibition in early April 2026.
Titled Spectacular Brooding, the exhibition “investigates the spectacles and secrets of black grief.” Holiday, the daughter of musician Jimmy Holiday, challenges viewers to interrogate the intersections between race and celebrity, the lifespan of Black creatives, the hidden cost of fame, and what our culture deems entertainment.
The exhibition features a mourning bench, video clips and sounds from funerals, documentaries, a dance studio space, poems and newspaper clippings, and a provocative collision of various depictions of African American celebrity dating back to slavery.
As guests explore the room, Holiday has a corner for her to sit in, where she can create while onlookers watch. She’s also hosting dance classes in the space alongside choreographer Bernard Brown.
Admission to the exhibition is free. You can RSVP for the artist reception on April 11 at 6pm here.
