A 35-year-old dental assistant pleaded guilty on Thursday, April 9 and was immediately sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting three young female patients.
Tommy Medina waived about 2 1/2 years of custody credits as part of a plea deal offer from Orange County Superior Court Judge Larry Yellin, which drew an objection from prosecutors. Medina was also ordered to register as a sex offender.
Medina worked at OC Kids Dental, 630 S. Main St., when he sexually assaulted two of the girls in 2013 and 2012, according to court records. A third victim came forward after the preliminary hearing on the first case.
One of the girls said she was 9 when she had a dental procedure at the office and was taken into a private room where Medina put her on a bed and put a leather cloth over her eyes before assaulting her, according to police testimony at his preliminary hearing.
Another victim said Medina sexually assaulted her in the same way when she went to the dental office when she was 5 or 6 years old in 2013, police testified.
