BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Samuel Smith, 29, was arrested by the Bakersfield Police Department on Tuesday, April 7, in connection with recent reports of theft and vandalism around the city.

Smith has been booked into the Lerdo Detention Facility on multiple charges, including grand theft of property, burglary, shoplifting and vandalism.

At about 1:39 a.m. on Monday, April 6, officers were dispatched to a theft in progress in the 800 block of 18th Street that was reported by private security personnel.

According to police, the alleged suspect fled the scene before officers arrived and could not be located.

Video surveillance was later obtained, and a Bakersfield Police Department K9 officer saw the suspect while on patrol and detained him.

Smith was arrested in connection with crimes that included break-ins in downtown Bakersfield, including at a Shell gas station on L Street, the Native Fox Collective and two break-ins at the House of Talula.

The suspect is also linked to thefts at the Kohl’s department store on Rosedale Highway and a construction site on Ming Avenue.
