Say hello to the new resident of the San Diego Zoo, a baby Schmidt’s red-tailed guenon newborn monkey and its first-time parents.
These playful primates are known for their vibrant colors, graceful leaps and cheeky charm.
After spending time indoors to bond, the newborn and first-time parents Janga, 5, and Jack, 6, are now visible to guests at their Ituri Forest habitat on Hippo Trail.
The word “guenon” comes from the French word for monkey. Native to western and central Africa, guenons are also expert foragers, using their cheek pouches to store extra food, sometimes as much as their stomachs can hold.
