ENCINITAS — La Costa Canyon High School’s girls lacrosse team has boasted one of the best offenses in San Diego County this season, eclipsing 12 or more goals in six of the Mavericks’ first nine games.
On Friday night, the Mavericks flexed their offensive muscles once again, cruising to a 14-6 victory over Northern California foe Marin Catholic and moving to 9-1 on the season.
“This year, the girls have really started honing in on valuing the ball,” said LCC coach Genesis Lucero, “They’re playing so well as a team this year, and that’s been our biggest strength.”

After giving up an opening goal to Marin Catholic’s Libby Irving, La Costa Canyon closed the first quarter on a 4-0run, with goals coming from Martha Hall, Logan Davis, Desi Lewallen and Parker Saari.
Alexis Felago helped to ignite the Mavericks’ offense, winning all five of the draws in the first quarter. The 2025 All-CIF pick and reigning Avocado League player of the year ended the night with 14 draw wins.
“I go into every draw thinking I want this draw, I need this draw,” said Felago, “Winning those draws starts our offense, and I’ll do anything it takes to get that ball on my stick and get it to my teammates.”
La Costa’s dominance in the first quarter traveled with them to the second, as the Mavericks scored four more times to extend their lead to 8-1.
Perhaps the most impressive goal of the bunch came courtesy of Emery Williams. The sophomore converted an 8-meter penalty just before the buzzer to make it an 8-1 Mavericks lead.
Ten different LCC players scored goals in the intersectional win.
“Our depth is one of our biggest strengths this season. I think the 10 scores show how much they trust eachother.” Lucero said.

Along with another strong effort from their offense, the Mavericks received an exceptional performance in goal fromCambria Williams. The sophomore logged a season-high 13 saves, which included eight saves in thefirst half alone.
Lucero said her goalkeeper “is just built differently.”
“She puts her body in front of everything, ” the coach said. “The most memorable thing she ever told me is when I asked her if it hurts when some of those balls hit her, and she told me the only balls that hurt are the ones that go in the net. She was so focused today.”
