A student has died after a shooting at Natomas High School just after 3:30 p.m., according to the Natomas Unified School District.

The shooting occurred near the 3300 Block of Fong Ranch Road. The school went on lockdown and traffic was briefly stopped by law enforcement.

According to the Natomas Unified School District, the victim was a former student at the high school, however their identity is being withheld until family is notified. According to Sacramento Police, the incident has been determined isolated, and the victim was the intentional target in the incident.

“It is with deep sadness that we share tragic news from today involving a former Natomas High School student who lost his life in a senseless act of violence. Our hearts are with the student’s family, friends, and the entire Natomas High School community impacted by this devastating loss,” said Natomas Unified School District in a statement. “Please know that the safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We will also have an increased safety presence on our campuses as an added precaution and to help provide reassurance to our community.”

This is an ongoing investigation, and no suspect identification has been released.
