LONG BEACH, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton jumped out to an early lead to defeat Long Beach State 10-0 in game one Friday night at Blair Field. With the win the Titans improve to 16-16 on the year and 10-6 in Big West play.Â
Fullerton’s 10-0 win is the largest margin of victory against Long Beach State since June 10, 2017 when the Titans won 12-0 in game two of the Super Regional.Â
The Titans got off to a strong start offensively, scoring four runs in the first inning, four runs in the second and two in the third to jump out to an early 10-0 lead.Â
Ty Thomas got the scoring started with a one-out RBI single to bring home Nick Miller from third base. Andrew Kirchner followed with a bunt single to score Paul Contreras and put the Titans up 2-0.Â

With the bases loaded, Niko Lombardi worked a walk to drive in Thomas and extend the lead to 3-0. Kirchner capped off the inning, scoring on a passed ball to put Fullerton up 4-0.Â
In the second inning, Miller led-off with a single before Cameron Kim doubled down the left field line to score Miller. Kim had two doubles in the game to extend his Big West leading total to 17.

With runners on the corners, Lombardi hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Thomas and make it a 7-0 lead. Fullerton extended the lead to 8-0 on a fielding error by Long Beach that allowed Kirchner to score.Â
After another Miller leadoff single, Contreras hit a two-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 10-0.

Contreras now has a team-high eight home runs on the year. Meanwhile, Miller went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs while reaching base six times with a walk and a hit by pitch.Â
While the offense took care of business early, Mikiah Negrete did his job on the mound once again. Negrete pitched seven shutout innings while allowing just three hits and striking five batters while not issuing a walk. The southpaw has allowed just one unearned run in his last three starts and has a 1.53 ERA in 58.2 innings pitched this season.Â
Fullerton looks to secure the series victory in game two Saturday night at Blair Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
