FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — October has been busy across Central California with spooky events drawing large crowds, but ghosts aren’t the only thing invisibly lingering in the air.
“We have to make it safe,” says Dr. A.M. Aminian from the Allergy Institute. “What are the things that can happen? In big crowds, especially indoors, you can catch these viruses, colds and flus.”
With Halloween around the corner, Dr. Aminian reminds parents of the importance of protecting themselves and their children on Halloween night, especially as flu season is upon us.
He says wash your hands, don’t touch your face and cover your cough and sneezes so you don’t end up like this.
“You get a very high fever, body ache and in vulnerable people like the elderly and children, can have very bad side effects,” he said. “Some people can even die from it, so the precautions are very important.”
He says getting a vaccine should be near the top of your list.
“Flu vaccine is very safe,” Dr. Aminian said. “It’s been around for half a century. Everything has side effects, but you have to judge the side effects versus the benefits. I would highly recommend people get the flu shot now.”
He also urges parents of kids with allergies to carry their EpiPen on Friday night and to inspect their children’s candy thoroughly.
