What should I do about Big Tech?

State leaders must actually hold social media, AI companies accountable | Opinion,” (sacbee.com, April 8)

I am 16 years old and greatly disturbed by what these huge social media companies can get away with. Should I boycott these tech giants? Should I personally go without amenities such as artificial intelligence?

I believe it is a great evil that these large companies control so much with no accountability, and we have a responsibility to do something about it. But what can one person do?

Matsui’s silence

Matsui, Vang clash over health care, campaign finance, Gaza in packed forum,” (sacbee.com, April 3)

During the April 2nd Congressional Forum, Sacramento City Councilwoman Mai Vang exposed Rep. Doris Matsui for not calling the war in Gaza a genocide. Numerous international human rights organizations and United Nations bodies agree with the International Association of Genocide Scholars that Israel’s war on Gaza meets the legal definition of genocide.

Matsui has consistently voted to send weapons to Israel. Her failure to call this a genocide — a failure shared by too many of her colleagues — has contributed to the cascade of disasters we are witnessing in Lebanon and Iran.

Fight against The SAVE Act

The SAVE Act is not about voter ID — it’s about voter suppression | Opinion,” (sacbee.com, March 28)

I am a wife, mother and grandmother in Tracy. I serve my church and community in multiple ways.

After 40 years of voting consistently, I am appalled that when I reregister, I may have to bring my passport, birth certificate, or even marriage license. This is an unfair burden. But I’m more worried about the poor and marginalized citizens who don’t have the means to obtain their birth certificate, a costly passport or a marriage license (possibly for a marriage that has ended).

This seems onerous and deliberate. Urge your representatives to vote against the SAVE Act, which would impose this burden on innocent citizens.

We must fight this.

Impeachment now

California leaders react to Donald Trump’s Iran war speech. ‘Totally delusional’,” (sacbee.com, April 1)

President Donald Trump has, once again, demonstrated his disregard for law and common decency, as well as for the safety and well-being of our military service members. He is clearly unfit to lead the world’s greatest military.

Impeachment is the only reasonable response.

No sensible explanation

California leaders react to Donald Trump’s Iran war speech. ‘Totally delusional’,” (sacbee.com, April 1)

It is monumentally shameful to hear President Donald Trump threaten civilian populations in Iran and the surrounding Middle East countries that did not initiate an attack on America.

Trump appears to be waging a war, absent any sensible explanation or justification for sacrificing American lives.
