A Dublin couple is facing murder charges in the shooting death of the longtime manager of a famed San Francisco strip club.
Richard Lund, 43, and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Asia Morton, used to work at the legendary Condor Club, and investigators believe their firings could be a motive for the killing of 60-year-old Mark Calcagni, the longtime Condor manager.
Calcagni was gunned down three weeks ago as he returned to his Santa Rosa home from work.
“It was an absolutely horrific incident,” Santa Rosa police Sgt. Patricia Seffens said. “The suspect had been waiting for the victim to return home early that morning. Unfortunately the victim was shot five times.”
Police said Lund and Morton were both former employees at the Condor.
“We do know that the victim had fired both of the suspects and they were no longer employed at that club,” Seffens said. “We do believe that that firing is at least one motivating factor in this homicide.”
Former Condor Club employee Rosey King said she worked with Morton as a bartender at the Condor for more than a year. King said Morton and Lund, who worked as a barback at the club, were angry about recently being fired.
“Shortly after she got fired, she was calling a few girls at the club and she was really upset and she was saying, ‘Do you think I could get my job back if Mark was gone?’ This is prior to Mark dying,” King said.
King said Calcagni will forever be remembered for giving people opportunities and demanding respect for dancers.
Lund and Morton are slated to be arraigned Tuesday.
