Despite Sacramento’s struggles this season, the organization plans to bring Christie back for the 2026-27 NBA season, as opposed to making a coaching change, according to Anthony Slater of ESPN.
Kings plan to keep Doug Christie as head coach
Christie’s first full season on the sideline in Sacramento has been a struggle, as the Kings have been near the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference virtually all season long. They missed out on the playoffs for a third straight year.
Injury issues played a large part in Sacramento’s issues this season, and the front office doesn’t view that as Christie’s fault. Plus, there has been some positives in terms of player development with guys like Maxime Raynaud, Dylan Cardwell and Nique Clifford.

So, Christie will get another shot next season, but his leash likely won’t be long. If there isn’t some positive progress, Christie will likely find his seat heating up pretty quickly.
Christie currently has a record of 49-83 in Sacramento.
