LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — The Meadowoods Disc Golf Course is now open to the public, giving players of every age and skill level a place to test their drive and sink putts.

Community members showed up for the soft opening of The Meadowoods Disc Golf Course, drawing disc golfers of all ages and skill levels.
Mike Smith teamed up with the county and the city of Long Beach to build an 18-basket course behind the Long Beach Senior Center.

“You really don’t have to be good at anything. It’s pretty much walking in the park. Any person can throw, it’s just how good you throw,” Smith, the course designer, said.
Smith said the sport is easy to pick up and is built for anyone.
“Whether you’re a big person, a small person, female, male, you can learn to throw disc, and they have discs that are made to do different things, just like regular golf balls,” Smith said.
Gulfport native Sylus Williams has been playing disc golf for a decade.
“Pretty difficult course, it definitely has some variety and I’m excited for what this course brings to us,” Williams said.
With the course just 15 minutes from home, Williams said he is thrilled to share the fairways with players of different skill levels.
“It’s pretty nice to know that everybody around me is getting better just watching me play, and it’s really nice,” Williams said.
Williams competes on the national stage, but he said the sport is about more than just winning.

“Just throwing the discs, man. Just having fun with my friends is always the best time in the world,” Williams said.
Smith said there is no right way to play.
“There are different ways and different styles that people play, and you know, it’s just whatever works for you. Just get out here and have fun,” Smith said.
Smith said an official grand opening will be announced at a later date.
