A man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly striking a 25-year-old parking lot attendant on the top of his head in an unprovoked attack near Petco Park, San Diego police said.
The attack occurred shortly after 3:40 p.m. near the Tailgate Park parking lot on K Street, as the Padres were playing the Colorado Rockies.
Police said the victim was struck with the broken handle of a wooden cane. He suffered minor injuries.
Officers arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the assault. The arrest came after officers deployed a bean bag and sent a police dog to assist officers in the arrest. When the man allegedly began hitting the dog, they also deployed a Taser, police said.
The suspect was checked out at the hospital and then taken to jail, where he was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
