Regarding Transition of the Independent Monitor Role
Sacramento, CA – Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD) and the Black Parallel School Board (BPSB), as parties to the 2023 Settlement Agreement and 2024 Action Plan, jointly announce that the Independent Monitor, Dr. Gregory Peters, has stepped down. SCUSD and BPSB are collaboratively engaging in an expedited process to identify a new Independent Monitor and look forward to sharing an update soon.  Â
The parties have taken the steps necessary to carry out the Action Plan’s purpose and guarantee the sustained success of our systemic reform efforts. During this transition period, the parties will take steps to ensure the long-term sustainability of our improvements and provide a clear and direct route to fundamentally improving the educational experiences and future for SCUSD’s students with disabilities, Black students with disabilities, and their families and caregivers.
We extend our sincere appreciation to Dr. Gregory Peters for his service as Independent Monitor and his contributions to advancing equity and inclusion within the District.
SCUSD and BPSB remain jointly committed to the Action Plan’s purpose of eliminating racial disparities, improving services for students with disabilities, and ensuring every student in the District receives a high-quality, equitable education.Â
