The 2025-26 NBA season was an absolute disaster for the Sacramento Kings, but at least it’s over.

Now it’s time to pour some salt in the wounds.

Domantas Sabonis makes list of NBA’s most overrated players

Kings star forward Domantas Sabonis was recently named one of the most overrated players in the NBA this season by Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report.

“The Sacramento Kings are a disaster, and an injury eventually ended Sabonis’ campaign early, but Sabonis was a big part of why the team got off to the awful start it did,” Bailey wrote.

“After leading the league in rebounding in each of the previous three seasons and making All-NBA in two of those campaigns, Sabonis’ numbers plummeted across the board in 2025-26. … And perhaps most importantly, his struggles as both a perimeter defender and rim protector caught up to him in a big way.”

Nothing went right for the Kings this past season, so it’s tough to pin too much blame on Sabonis, but he certainly had a down year individually. He was limited to just 19 total games due to a back injury, and his counting stats dropped substantially during those games compared to previous seasons.

Considering the fact that Sabonis made over $40 million for the season, it’s easy to see how he ended up on a list of the league’s most overrated players. He probably could have made a list of the most overpaid players, too.

Unfortunately for the Kings, Sabonis still has two years and over $90 million remaining on his current contract. Moving that won’t be easy, so Sacramento has to hope that Sabonis will respond with a better campaign next season.
