Magnitude 5.7 earthquake shakes NorCal, felt in Sacramento and Nevada

(FOX40.COM) — A magnitude 5.7 earthquake struck near Silver Springs, Nevada, on Monday evening, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at around 6:29 p.m. at a depth of about 6 miles, a level that allowed the shaking to be felt across a wide area, including parts of the Sacramento Valley and near the Lake Tahoe region, USGS said.

USGC reported that the initial measurements of the quake’s magnitude fluctuated between 5.5 and 5.7.

The earthquake was felt in the FOX40 newsroom.

At this time, there were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.
