BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) Multiple fire crews were called to east Bakersfield on Saturday to put out a warehouse fire near 99 Washington Street, the latest in a string of fires at the same warehouse complex.

The property has been the site of repeated fire responses this year.

In March 2025, flames scorched the warehouse.

At the time, Kern County Fire Department spokesman Andrew Freeborn said the fire involved highly combustible materials.

“What was burning was plastic wrap,” Freeborn said on March 13, 2025.

“So even if you’re getting some moisture from the rain, it’s burning with such intensity, and the rain has to get to what’s burning.”

Firefighters were also called to the warehouse complex in January 2025.

Kern County Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Drucker said the area has generated numerous calls for service.

“There have been lots of fires in that area. It’s about a ten-acre or so compound. It has multiple metal warehouse buildings, and we have run many calls in there,” Drucker said on Jan. 30, 2025.

The lot is in the city of Bakersfield’s Ward 2 district, represented by City Councilman Andre Gonzales.

A request for comment from Gonzales had not been returned.

As the fires continue, Drucker said the department remains focused on the broader safety concerns posed by large incidents at the site.

“It does not make us happy when there’s a large smoke column going into the air. We’re concerned for public safety,” Drucker said.
