Fire breaks out in previously burned building near Sacramento State

(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento Fire Department responded to a two-alarm commercial structure fire on Tuesday evening near Sacramento State.
According to fire officials, the fire occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 400 block of University Avenue in the Campus Commons area. Authorities said the fire is in a building that had previously burned.
A spokesperson with Sacramento Fire said when crews arrived, they found a heavy fire involvement throughout the building.
Due to the intensity of the blaze and the structure’s condition, crews quickly determined it was too dangerous to enter and shifted to a defensive strategy, battling the fire from outside, officials stated.
Fire crews stated that the building, described as an older structure with large structural components that can burn hotter and longer, had been vacant for several months. Firefighters confirmed no one was inside at the time of the fire.
The fire’s rapid growth and extreme heat prompted the second alarm, bringing in additional resources to contain the blaze.

Authorities reported that the fire is being investigated as suspicious due to the building’s vacant status. Arson investigators were called to the scene, which is standard protocol for second-alarm fires.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
