Five unique Ramona Valley gardens are designed to inspire visitors to become more “waterwise” as part of the Ramona Garden Club’s self-guided Spring Garden Tour on Saturday, May 2.
The event is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and runs in conjunction with the Plant & Craft Sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the same day at Ramona Oaks Park, 25341 Pappas Road in the San Diego Country Estates.
Tickets to the Garden Tour cost $30 and can be purchased online at RamonaGardenClub.com. Tickets are also sold at Main Street Coffee at 680 Main St. and at the Plant & Craft Sale on Saturday.
Each of the five gardens reflects the owner’s creativity, vision and changes they’ve made over the years to integrate native plants and trees, said Ramona Garden Club President Robert Holton. The goal was to become more in harmony with the natural surroundings, he said.
“This year’s tour will also help visitors experience creative ideas for incorporating various landscape materials and designs with native and non-native plants to become more waterwise while maintaining the vision of a beautiful garden,” Holton said.
As visitors explore the various gardens they will notice extensive walking pathways that several owners have incorporated over the years.

The Garden Tour and the Spring Plant & Craft Sale are the Garden Club’s largest revenue generators for the year, Holton said.
“Proceeds go to our local high school scholarship fund, and support grants to local nonprofit organizations to support beautification and educational initiatives,” he said.
This year’s plant sale aligns with the club’s annual theme of “Supporting Native Bees in Our Community.” The sale will feature native and non-native flowering plants that attract bees and other pollinators.
“For several months, club members have been propagating and growing a wide variety of plant groupings for the sale,” Holton said. “One benefit of homegrown plants is that the plants can be sold at lower prices than retail stores.”
In addition to plants, a wide variety of homemade crafts items, some that club members have created, will be sold.
