FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (WKRC) – A 4-year-old allegedly shot and killed his 2-year-old brother after the pair were left alone in the family’s truck.

According to a release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office, the department received a 911 call at around 10:26 a.m. on April 10 from a “citizen who was out for a walk reporting a young child had sustained a gunshot injury at a nearby residence.”

Despite life-saving efforts from first responders, the child succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Preliminary information indicates three young children were placed in a vehicle in the driveway of their home, and in the brief time their parent returned back into the home to grab an item they forgot, a four-year-old in the vehicle located a loaded firearm in the center console,” the release read. “That firearm discharged, striking a two-year-old sibling victim. No one else was injured.”
