OAKLAND CITY — Oakland City’s fireworks celebration will feature mock police chases with the vehicles from “Smokey and the Bandit” and a chance to see those vehicles up close, Mayor James Deffendall told the Oakland City Council during the regular council meeting on April 14.
The Independence Day celebration is June 27, the Saturday before July 4, with fireworks, music by the Duke Boys, bouncy houses, food trucks — and, as the mayor revealed, the Pontiac Firebird Trans Am police cars from “Smokey and the Bandit” on display at the festival from Branson, Missouri.
“It will be a great day for celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday,” Deffendall said.
