A man wanted for an armed carjacking who was fatally shot by deputies following a high-speed chase in Sacramento County on Tuesday morning has been identified. The Sacramento County coroner identified him as 33-year-old Tyler Allen Gress.Sgt. Edward Igoe, a spokesperson for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, said the Citrus Heights Police Department notified deputies around 2:30 a.m. about a carjacking in the city.Citrus Heights Police said the carjacking happened near Greenback Lane and San Juan Avenue.A man pointed a gun at another person, demanding their vehicle and threatening to kill them and any law enforcement who respond to the scene, according to the Sacramento County sheriff’s office.Igoe said that at some point during this carjacking, the gunman fired one round before driving away. Around 3 a.m., deputies spotted the vehicle at Marconi and Eastern avenues in the Arden-Arcade area.Deputies tried pulling the driver over, but Igoe said they kept going, prompting a high-speed chase throughout parts of the county, going as far as the Sacramento International Airport before reaching Interstate 5 at Arena Boulevard in the Natomas area.Throughout the chase, Igoe said the driver would repeatedly point his gun at deputies from outside the window. Igoe said deputies used a tire deflation device on the vehicle, but the driver kept going until he got out of the vehicle on the freeway at Arena Boulevard and pointed his gun at deputies, prompting four deputies to shoot at him.After the shooting, deputies tried giving the driver medical aid, but Igoe said he died at the scene. No deputies were injured in the shooting. Details were not released on how many deputies shot their guns or how many rounds were fired.
